North East Sportsmen’s trap team ended the season on a high note by defeating Gem City Sportsmen 245-240.

North East ended the second half with a 4-3 record. With a 5-2 in the first half and a 4-3 in the second half, 9-5 record for the year makes North East one of the top teams.

Top shooters for North East against Gem City were Jim Courtwright with a perfect 50. Doug Sliker, Jack Airhart, and Ed Firment Sr. had 49s. Mark Henry, Ken Hitz, and Matt Schultz had 48s. Tony Piotrowski had a perfect 25 but was not in the score.

Matt Schultz is a new shooter having only shot in 5 matches and is only 11 years old. He shot his first perfect 25 and a 23 for a 48 at the Gem City match. Matt is North East’s only junior shooter. The nice thing about a sport like trap shooting you can do it all your life and it is a good family sport.

North East will shoot at the league’s post season shoot held at Edinboro on Sept. 11 and then the league’s season will be over until next year.

Open trap shooting will still be held at the Club on E. Townline Rd. on Monday and Wednesday evenings and is available to the public at this time. If you want to try trap shooting this is a good time to try.
