The 2011 NEHS boys golf season started off with a match hosted by Corry at North Hills Golf Course on Thursday, August 18.

This year’s top six North East golfers consists of 4 juniors, 1 sophomore and 1 freshman.

Pacing the team with a 78 was Brett Palmer, and following one stroke behind was Alex Hunter with 79. Brian Ropiecki shot 83 and Logan Zahner came in with an 89. Esterline finished with 101 and Cody Meehl a 102.

Overall, North East came in 2nd place in the tournament (329), 10 strokes behind Ft. LeBoeuf (319).

Rounding out scores for the 8 teams were: General McLane (334), Corry (348), Seneca (361), Fairview (384), Girard (412) and Iroquois (475).

The next independent match was Friday, August 19 at Crab Apple Ridge Golf Course in Erie. Three teams competed with North East maintaining second place again.

Ft. LeBoeuf won with 312, NE (333) and Cambridge Springs (401). Individual scores for North East were: Hunter (79), Ropiecki (83), Zahner (84), Palmer (87), Meehl (90), Esterline (94).

Monday, August 22 found the Pickers at the Par 72, Culbertson Hills Golf Course in Edinboro facing another match with the top 8 teams in Region 5. 

Palmer came in with 84, Hunter shot 85, Zahner scored a solid 86, Ropiecki carded an 88, with Meehl shooting 98 and Esterline 110.

General McLane came in first place at their home course with a team score of 327, Ft. LeBoeuf was 5 strokes back with 332 and North East took 3rd place with 343.

Other team scores were: Seneca (351), Corry (364), Fairview (368), Girard (411), Iroquois (458). 

So far this season, District 10, Region 5 current point totals are:

1. Ft. LeBoeuf - 15

2. General McLane - 14

3. North East - 13

4. Corry - tied 9

4. Seneca - tied 9

6. Fairview - 6

7. Girard - 4

8. Iroquois - 2

The North East linksters headed next to Blueberry Hill Golf Course in Warren, PA on Wednesday, August 24 for a 40-team tournament.
