The North East softball team traveled to Girard hoping to extend their three-game winning streak but came up short in a heart-breaking 2-1 loss last week.
Picker hurler Rachel Miller limited the Lady Yellow Jackets to 3 hits in the game, but in the third inning a single and a home run produced Girard’s 2 runs which proved to be enough.
The Lady Pickers had 6 hits in the game but couldn’t get a clutch hit as they left a total of 8 runners stranded on base. They scored their only run in the fifth inning when freshman Breanna Klenz scored on senior Alex Gregory’s RBI double. Miller struck out 7 batters in the tough loss.
On Thursday, April 28 the powerful Northwestern Lady Wildcats came to grape country and handily defeated the Pickers, 12-3. After the visitors scored 2 runs in the top of the first, North East scored in the bottom of the first when Tori Prather singled and later scored.
The Wildcats added 3 runs in the second and 3 more in the fifth to make it a 8-1 game. North East scored in the fifth on a triple by Kaitlyn Burns and an RBI single by Victoria Alcorn. Northwestern scored a run in the sixth and 3 in the seventh before North East scored its final run in the seventh when Kayla Rizzo walked and scored on Alcorn’s second RBI single for a final score of 12-3.
