It’s that time of year again for some great wrestling as North East hosts its annual Wrestling Classic.
The North East Wrestling Classic has stood the test of time and is now in its 31st year and has produced some of the best wrestling ever to be seen in this area.
There have been a number of Section Champions, District 10 Champions, Regional Champions, State Champions and NCAA All Americans who have graced the mat at the North East High School the third weekend in January every year. This year’s Classic is no exception, with 21 teams and too many top State and District 10 ranked wrestlers to name. This tournament will be more like Hershey Arena in mid-March rather than January 21 and 22.
Teams competing include: North East, Harbor Creek, Iroquois, Seneca, Fairview, Union City, Mercer, Cochranton, Saegertown, Eisenhower, Kane, Grove City, Corry, Franklin, West Middlesex, Red Bank Valley, Sharon, Portage, Keystone, Smethport and Conneaut Lake.
The North East Wrestling Classic is set for Friday, January 21 and Saturday, January 22. Wrestling begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. and should be one of the best finals of the year from 103 pounds all the way to the 285-weight class.
