George D. Warren, Sr., 80

George D. Warren, Sr., age 80, of Harborcreek, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 4, following a brief illness.  He was born in Erie on March 16, 1936; a son of the late Leroy and Mildred Lewis Warren.

George was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was stationed in Norfolk, Va. during his service.  He was employed by the General Electric Co. for over 25 years prior to his retirement.  He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club and Retiree’s Association.  

George had also previously owned and operated the former 700 Lounge and Lanes in Barcelona, N.Y. for many years.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and hunting and was inducted into the Erie Bowling Hall of Fame.  He enjoyed his frequent visits to the “bread store.”

George was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Huey Warren; eight brothers; one sister and one son-in-law, Paul Miller.  He is lovingly survived by his second wife of eight years, JoAnne L. Lindsey Merkle Warren; seven children: George, Jr. (Nancy), Dotty Leeper (Arnold), Mike (Karen), Mary Jo Miller, Marlene Lyon (Jeff), Stephen (Terry) and Amy Greenawalt (Ed); two brothers: Albert Warren (Mary) and Harry Warren, Sr. (Roseann); one sister, Edna Sobczak (Norm); 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek), on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 11 a.m.  George will be laid to rest in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie County Diabetes Association (in memory of his wife, Jackie), 1128 State St., Ste. 302, Erie, PA 16501.
