The North East Historical Society will open its museum for Sugar Plum Weekend festivities, serving up a wide array of refreshments, making available for purchase historically themed books and its 2018 calendar and extending an open invitation to area residents to join its ranks as members.

Children are invited to hand-decorate their own cookies, and eat them as well, of course, while their parents and older siblings can enjoy home-baked cookies, hot cider and coffee provided by the society’s board of directors.

The museum, 25 Vine St., will be open Saturday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 3, noon to 5 p.m.

The hot-off-the-press North East calendar, which presents contrasting photographs of assorted North East scenes and landmarks – from long ago and today – will be available for purchase for $13. Supplies are limited.

Visitors may also obtain society memberships, offered at single $20, family $25, sponsor $100 and lifetime $250 rates. Existing members are also invited to renew their membership during the festivities or mail them to: P.O. Box 483, North East, PA 16428.

Members are vital to the continued operation of the museum and the financial well-being of the society. Membership dues represent the largest source of revenue to fund daily museum operations and building maintenance. New members are always needed to help handle a variety of tasks and generate new ideas to further the mission of the society.
