The Board of School Directors held its regular meeting on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
Business Manager Brian Polito updated the board on the progress of the North East High School renovation project, estimated to start during the summer of 2012 and finish at the end of summer of 2013. The board will meet with the architects to discuss ideas and renovations at a later meeting. The project will be paid for through financing rather than cash in order to obtain reimbursement faster.
NEHS Assistant Principal Brian Emick explained an online program the school will offer in an attempt to gain students back from cyber-school. Eligible students will be able to earn credits online and will still be considered NESD students, which allows them to participate in sports as well as extra curricular activities.
Additionally, Superintendent James Brotz mentioned in his report that the district has shown excellent progress in narrowing the achievement gap between sub groups and the overall population. The district has shown a significant improvement in shortening this gap in economically disadvantaged as well as IEP sub groups.
According to Brotz, results at the High School are the “best they’ve ever been,” giving credit to the staff and adding, “We want to be data driven.”
