Downtown North East, Inc. presents the first annual Wine Fest Stride ‘n Stomp 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 25.

Cost is only $20 for pre-registered participants if registration is received by September 5, 2011. Register online at or pick up an application at the North East Chamber of Commerce, 17 E. Main St. in North East or at the North East News-Journal, 39 S. Lake St. in North East.

Cost increases to $25 for registrations received or postmarked after September 5, 2011. Runners and walkers registered by the deadline will receive a top-quality long-sleeved T-shirt.

Post-race refreshments will be provided, along with the unique chance to stop grapes after finishing the course. Bring a towel if you opt to stomp!

The course will follow much of that used for the Cherry Festival 5K, winding through quiet, mostly shaded streets in North East Borough.

Day-of registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the northwest corner of Gibson Park.

Besides serving as a fun fall run/walk, the Stride ‘n Stomp is a fundraiser for Downtown North East, Inc., a non-profit 501c3 group comprised of volunteers working to revitalize North East’s historic downtown.

Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female in the run & walk – each will receive a bottle of local wine; it IS Wine Fest, after all! Age group awards to the top three males and females in categories starting with 12 and under, 13-15, 16-19 and then in five year increments 20-24, up to 70 and over for the run.

Make checks payable to: Downtown North East, Inc. (a 501c3 non-profit…so your donation is tax-deductible!)

Or register online at

Sponsorships are available and volunteers are needed to help out on race day. For information please  contact Tracy Jones at 725-4831 or e-mail for more information.
