Edward S. Stroz, Sr., age 88, of Erie, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 in Cambridge Springs, Pa. He was born in Johnstown, Pa. on January 28, 1923, son of the late Thomas and Julia Pesco Stroz.

He had resided in Erie for most of his life. Ed had previously owned Sammy’s Tavern and Ed’s Bar on Erie’s East Side. He had also been employed by the General Electric Co. for 25 years. Ed had attended St. James R.C. Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He was a member of American Legion Carl Neff Post #571, V.F.W., Huzars Club, Polish Falcons Club and the former East Erie Turners Club. He enjoyed woodworking, and in past years he loved to dress up for weekend dancing engagements.

He is survived by six children, James Stroz (Joanne) of Alabama, Edward Stroz (Pat) of Ohio, Valerie Giannelli (Lou) of Harborcreek Twp., Thomas Stroz of Erie, Barbara Cartmell (John) of Harborcreek Twp., and Judy Reed (John) of Millcreek; a sister, Alice Szczesny of Erie; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys “Lottie” Wilson, Anna Nikolishen; infant daughters, Nancy and Joyce Stroz; and two brothers, John and Leo Stroz.

The Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, handled arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association .- Greater PA Chapter, 1128 State St., Suite 301, Erie, PA 16501.
