Thomas B. Whitford, age 72, of Millcreek Township, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Erie on September 14, 1939, son of the late Clyde and Lucy Whitford.

Tom was a 1957 graduate of Harbor Creek High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed at Lord Corp. for 35 years as a tool and die maker prior to his retirement. At Lord Corp, he was a member of Locals #1211 and #1968 IAM & AW, Lord Athletic Assn., Quarter Century Club and Lord Retirees Group.

He was very active in the community, having served as President of the Florence Crittenton Home, a Director and President of the Erie District Bowling Assn., and a member of the EDBA Hall of Fame for meritorious service. He was also a Director on the Board of the PA State Bowling Assn., bowled in the Erie Church League for over 40 years, and golfed in Lord’s Friday morning golf league. Tom was also a member of the Siebenbuerger Club.

Tom is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Sandy Kelly Whitford, whom he married on September 3, 1960; two children, Jeffrey Whitford of Placerville, Calif. and Kellie Lee (Chris Riordan) of Henderson, Nev.; two brothers, Donald Whitford (friend, Dottie) of Harborcreek and Glenn Whitford (Betty) of Conneaut, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kaitlin, Matthew, Jacob and Sarah Whitford, and Amanda and Allison Lee; Papa to Lauren and Philip Myrick; many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his sister Janet Hohman; a brother, Charles Whitford; an infant brother, Fred; and a son-in-law, Dan Lee.

Arrangements were handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road. Memorials may be designated to a charity of one’s choice.
