Non-profits encouraged to develop Community Fair display

photo by Paul Sacco; North East Arts Council is one of several nonprofits to set up a display at last year’s North East Community Fair. Groups are invited and encouraged to participate in the annual fair, which welcomes about 3,500 visitors each year.

The North East Community Fair Association encourages all local non-profits to enter a display in the Fair, held September 20-22 at the North East High School gym.

The Fair attracts about 3,500 visitors yearly and your display would help promote your organization as well as compete for first through third place. Entries in Group Exhibits (Department 20 in the Fair book) are divided into exhibits promoting the Fair or agriculture in general, exhibits not promoting agriculture, youth organizations (including FCCLA, 4-H, FFA and scouting organizations) and exhibits promoting grape-growing (viticulture).

For those wishing to use the fair theme as part of their display, the 2012 theme is “Fields of Blooms.” Further details on the specific entry categories are available; please see page 35 of the Fair book (available at local businesses and McCord Library) or go to www.northeastcommunityfair.org and find Group Exhibits under the “Department” heading.

Adult organizations who pre-register pay a fee of $1.50 and youth organizations pay $1.00. Those registering at the door pay $0.50 more. The fair has about 20 spaces available for group exhibits. Potential registrants are encouraged to make a reservation before September 10 by calling department chair Julie Gorniak at (814)725-1067.

In addition, local industries, businesses, and agricultural product businesses may promote their enterprise in a limited number of spaces. Such entries are subject to prior review by the Fair’s board of directors. Space reservations must be made be on or before September 10 by calling Rodney Blystone at (814)725-9187.

This year the Fair Association is encouraging local non-profits and other vendors to engage in fundraising at the Fair.  A limited number of 12x12 spaces at a cost of $25 will be available outside the school gym and limited electrical service will be available. Organizations or vendors must provide their own tents, tables and other fixtures.

For details, please contact the Fair committee by emailing necf@juno.com or calling (814)725-9187 before Friday, August 31.
