Grape Country Marketplace featuring Welch’s & More will host Mary Moodey for the next Gallery Talk, scheduled for Thursday, January 24 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Marketplace.

All are invited to come and listen as Moodey presents, and explore her work and the Marketplace at 17 W. Main St. in downtown North East, across from Gibson Park.

Mary Arete Moodey, Founder and Creative Director of MarMooWorks, LLC, features original children’s books, published in traditional and digital formatting, and companion pieces, which include:  audio recordings; children’s Readable Wear screened with story imagery and text; one-of-kind restored and hand-painted furniture by Cindra Vallone, Creator of Wood Orphans Design; and a website with a Storyline Blog, and links to art collaborators and retailers.  Currently, she and arts animator Brendan Miller are designing interactive capabilities for Apps.

Both educational and entertaining, the stories engage children and adults, as they appeal to the sense of adventure, creative play, exploration, and imaginative problem solving.  Educators wanting to teach across- curriculum concepts in inventive and thought-provoking ways also can use them as classroom resources.  By providing employment opportunities to collaborators in the arts and technology and developing new sources of regional manufacturing, MarMooWorks is committed to contributing to the region’s economic and cultural growth.

Moodey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Masters of Education from Allegheny College, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught from the elementary through college grade levels, designed and directed arts-infused multi-disciplinary curriculum, has had poems published in literary journals throughout the United States, has worked as an artist-in-residence through ArtsErie, and participated in the nationally recognized program Arts-in-Action. This year, she was awarded the Grand Prize in the Innovation Erie Design Arts 2012 Competition.

Christopher Counts The Constellations, Moodey’s first MarMooWorks productions, is the story of how a young boy discovers the celestial mysteries of the night and the magic of his name by exploring the constellations, “every night before drifting off to sleep.”  The story is available as a hardcover book; an e-book for the Kindle and iPad; an audio recording; and on children’s Readable Wear screened with story imagery and text; and on one-of-a-kind restored and hand-painted children’s furniture designed by Wood Orphans Design.  Currently, Moodey is working with an arts animator on developing Christopher Counts The Constellations for Apps with interactive programming.

Gallery Talks are held nearly every Thursday at the Grape Country Marketplace.
