David J. Neil, 94, formerly of Shadduck Road, North East, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. He was born on April 2, 1916 in Busti, NY a son of the late John and Alice Pratt Neil.

David owned and operated his own grape farm in North East.  He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in Italy and during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  David was a graduate of Alfred University where he was a member of Kappa Phi Upsilon Fraternity.

He was a member of North East Lodge #399 F. & A.M. in North East and Zem Zem Shrine in Erie,  where he was a member of the Legion of Honor.  He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Erie Court #58 and the American Legion Post #105, North East.  Dave was a charter member of Lakeview Country Club where he also served on the board of Lakeview Developments,  Past President and former member of North East Borough Council, Past President and former member of the Board of Directors of McCord Memorial Library and had served on the North East School District Building Authority.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Macgregor Neil in 2006, two brothers, Don and Cecil Neil, five sisters, Grace and Esther Neil, Mary Adkins, Winifred Nagy and Lucy Hall, one daughter-in-law, Susan Neil and his long time friend Charlie Sceiford.  David is survived by three sons, Pete Neil and his wife Ursula of Sacramento, CA, Mac Neil and his wife Sandy and Bill Neil and his wife Leslie, all of North East, PA.  Also survived by five grandchildren, Cristin Neil, Tory Neil, Maggie Neil, Heather Neil and Elizabeth Bashan and by two great grandchildren, Asher and Shea Bashan.

Visitation was held at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home.  Interment was in Grahamville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McCord Memorial Library, 32 W. Main St., North East, PA 16428.  To send condolences, please visit www.bowersfuneralhome.com.
