James W. Vanstone, 70, of Edinboro, passed away August 19, 2011. He was born in North East, Pa., on January 28, 1941, son of the late Ralph and Beth Vanstone.

During the Vietnam War he served as a helicopter radio repairman with the 25th (Tropical Lightning Division) United States Army.

After graduating from Edinboro University, Jimmy was a speech therapist with the Intermediate Unit #5 in the Fort LeBoeuf school district for 25 years. Trying his hand at other occupations in his long enjoyable life included working at Penn Union, the Agway Farm Store, as an Associate Private Investigator, and two years finding homes for exchange high school students from this area with those from South America.

Jimmy was always happy to be working with people of all ages. He tried to practice sharing his sense of humor and love for all people. If you didn’t have a smile he would gladly give you one of his. James had been an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Edinboro. Further spiritual life was experienced in over 26 years in AA.

James was the current commander of the Edinboro American Legion Post 439; also he was a Pennsylvania State Education Association member. Known as a “dog whisperer,” he always owned at least one dog and often gave loving care for others’ pets while they were away.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; a daughter, Stacey Vanstone Weber, and her husband, Derrick, of Youngsville, Pa.; a step-daughter, Amy Hesse and her husband, Michael, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and a step-son, GySgt. Vincent Koscielniak USMC, and his wife, Stacey, living in Florida.

He is also survived by a sister, Mimi Polvino; three grandchildren, Dylan, Caleb and Cameron; and several nieces and nephews.
