The International Coastal Cleanup will take place on September 17th from 9 a.m. to Noon. This is a unique opportunity for community members to get acquainted with what washes up on our shoreline.

The Coastal Cleanup is a fun and educational worldwide effort that tallies the debris as it is collected for data analysis. In North East the areas to be surveyed are Freeport Beach, North East Marina, 20-Mile Township Park, and the mouths of 16- and 20-Mile Creeks.

This is an activity in which young and old can easily participate, and is perfect for a family activity. No boots or special clothes are required, just a stroll along the shoreline. As each piece of litter is collected, it will be listed on a sheet that will be used to formulate an overall evaluation of the condition of the Great Lakes waterfront.

If you can volunteer to be part of this project, meet at the North East Marina on Saturday, September 17 at 8:30 a.m. for your assignment and equipment.
