North East graduate returns home to headline at Wine Fest

North East graduate James Drakes is set to return home with his Pittsburgh-based acoustic rock band James Drakes and the Chris Taylor Trio to headline the Gibson Park Stage at Wine Fest this year.

This show will mark the first time the band has been able to play a hometown set with Drakes.

“Being an officially sanctioned band in the festival has always been a goal of mine. It’s going to be incredible, being able to take the stage in Gibson Park and play our first major show in the town that had a huge impact on my life,” said Drakes.

It also coincides with the release of their highly anticipated debut album "Follow These Rivers."

“The songs themselves have a great flow and are very relatable. They are written from a personal perspective but have something in them for everyone to enjoy. The album has a great feel to it, and has a style that should appeal to anybody,” Drakes said.

Their album will be released on Oct. 7.

The band has a fun, distinct sound with an array of catchy originals and singalong covers. Their music is quickly gaining traction in the regional music scene.

Albums and new T-shirts will be available for purchase at Wine Fest.

The band will be performing on the Gibson Park Stage on Friday, Sept. 22, from 7:30 until 9 p.m. Admission to Gibson Park is free.
