John Peter Ciprich, age 91, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Twinbrook Medical Center. He resided in Harborcreek Township. He was born in Ludlow, Pa., December 4, 1919, son of the late Peter and Verna Barnack Ciprich.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Caroline Szubielski Ciprich; his children, John P. Ciprich, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Erie, Barbara J. Stankiewicz and her husband, Robert of Erie and Sam D. Ciprich and his wife, Pattie of Harborcreek. John is also survived by seven grandchildren: Lisa Wright, Debbie Abramczyk, Linda Clark, Kim Sweeney, Connie Budurka, Janet Parks and Samantha Ciprich; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, George Ciprich of North Carolina; and a sister, Lillian Johnson of Conneaut Lake, Pa.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, Raymond and Fred Ciprich; and three sisters, Virginia Peterson, Ann Panko and Rose Pochatko.

John was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a Flight Officer. He retired from the Harborcreek School District, working in the school garage. He was a member of the American Legion Carl Neff Post.

John’s greatest joy was airplanes and flying. From serving in the Army Air Corps and throughout his life, he flew airplanes. He received his flight instructor’s license from the Erie Institute of Aeronautics. John also built airplanes, which he flew.

Arrangements were handled  by the G. R. Bailey Funeral Home, 4396 Iroquois Ave., Lawrence Park.
