Twice-per-week garbage collection in North East Borough wrapped up for the season Oct. 1. The code enforcement officer for the Borough has not sent out letters in an effort to give residents a chance to adjust to the once-per-week pickup. As of Oct. 17 he will again send letters for early garbage placement. Remember you are not permitted to place your garbage curbside before 6 p.m. the day before your scheduled pick-up.

The third national Prescription Drug Take Back Day is set for Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Drop off unwanted, leftover prescription medication for safe disposal to Erie City Police Dept., 626 State St. or PA State Police, 4320 Iroquois Ave.

North East High School Sports Boosters will hold their monthly meeting October 17 at 7 p.m. in the room adjacent to the cafeteria. Meetings usually last less than an hour. Coaches, parents and Boosters members are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you cannot attend and would like something brought for discussion, call Mary Knight-Strong, President, at 882-1018.

With leaf season upon us, North East Borough reminds residents placement of any vegetation is not permitted in the streets of North East. Vegetation consists of any ornamental organic material, grass, flowers, brush and leaves. Place your material on the berm area between your sidewalk and the street, and the Borough crews will collect it as soon as possible.

Lunch hour lap swimming is now open at the Mercyhurst North East pool on N. Lake St. across from Heard Park. The pool is open for lap swimming on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Cost is $2 for the public; Mercyhurst students and faculty are free.
