Mercyhurst North East joined in the effort to honor the community's veterans this summer through the North East Veterans Banner Project. The banners honor two of our own MNE Police and Safety staff for their service to country, community and campus and are located on West Main Road near Sanders Markets.

Charles Rosequist, head of police & safety services at MNE, served in the US Army Military Police during the Cold War. He was a sniper on an SR team. Upon completion of his military service, he became a patrolman in the Borough of Wesleyville, then served the North East Police Department from 1982-2010, retiring as Chief of Police. Rosequist said he is proud to carry on a legacy of service that began in the American Revolution.

MNE police officer Larry Occhibone served a staff sergeant and police officer in the Air Force at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas and Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. During that time, he was deployed in two conflicts, Panama and Grenada, and also served during the Desert Shield deployments in Iraq. After being honorably discharged in 1988, he served with the Pennsylvania State Police for 21 years, 13 years of which were spent in the Forensics Unit. He retired in 2009 as a corporal and assumed his MNE police post in 2011.

Veterans who'd like to join the ranks of MNE students may qualify for benefits. Contact the admissions office at (814) 725-6144 for more details.
