WESLEYVILLE — For one North East resident, the love of crocheting led her to open her own business and share that love with the community.

Aimee Slaughter recently opened her new store — The Love of Crochet and More! in Wesleyville. The store is located at 3020 Buffalo Road.

Slaughter said she has been crocheting her whole life but has started selling her creations over the past 10 years.

“I’ve always loved crocheting and creating things for people,” she said. “I’ve sold things online for a while, but then the opportunity to open a store front came, and I jumped at it.”

Dozens of handcrafted items are available at Slaughter’s new store, which officially opened on June 2.

“I make everything from hats, to toys and since we live in wine country, I’ve started to make little wine bottle gift bags,” she said. “I also make blankets and other custom things for people.”

Slaughter will also be selling specialty yarns that crafters won’t be able to find at other stores in the Erie area.

“I sell specialty yarn that comes from California, that you just can’t find at any of the big-box retail stores around here,” she said. “I’m also working with a lot of wholesale companies to provide a variety of products.”

According to Slaughter, starting The Love of Crochet and More! has been a whirlwind experience, and wouldn’t be possible without her family.

“My dad was setting up his office here, and originally I just asked him if I could use the window to display things,” she said. “It turned into him putting up a wall and now I have this little storefront. We did all the construction ourselves.

“So far, this whole experience has been really great,” Slaughter added.

As the summer continues, Slaughter will be teaching knitting and crocheting classes at her store.

“People can call to sign up for classes now,” she said. “I will do one-on-one classes and group classes. The classes will be for all skill levels, too. I’ll work with beginners and teach them the basics. No skills are needed to join.”

For crafters currently working on projects, Slaughter said her door is always open.

“I love helping people, so anyone who needs help with a project they started is more than welcome to come by and ask for advice,” she said.

The Love of Crochet and More! is open from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

Slaughter can be reached at 814-823-5687.
