Crosby’s convenience store at the northeast corner of Route 6 and North Center Street has closed.
“The site was just not profitable for us,” said Doug Galli, vice president and general manager of Reid Stores Inc., of Brockport, N.Y.
Reid Stores Inc. is a division of the Reid Group of Lockport, N.Y., which purchased the store and lot at 7 E. Columbus Ave. in 2011. Crosby’s opened at the site of the former Corry BP on Feb. 18, 2011.
Although Crosby’s has shut its doors, Galli said the Reid Group does not plan to abandon the site.
“We have plans to develop the property,” Galli said. “We fully intend to do something rather than later.”
Galli declined to provide details on what those development plans might be.
“We have no approvals yet from the city to do anything formally,” Galli said. “We just aren’t at liberty to say right now.”
Crosby’s convenience store offered soft drinks, milk, candy, automotive products, pizza, coffee and other convenience-store items, as well as BP gasoline from three service islands.
Crosby’s operates another store in Corry at 247 E. Main St.
The eight employees who lost their jobs when the East Columbus Avenue store closed were offered positions at other Crosby’s in the area, Galli said.
Galli said the Reid Group doesn’t view the closing of the store as a setback.
“As we told our associates, this is not a step back for our organization, it’s a step forward,” he said.
