UNION CITY — A Union Township man waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges he burglarized residences in several area townships this past summer.

Joseph M. Salzillo, 21, whose address was listed as Warren County Prison, waived his right Nov. 24 to a hearing in front of District Judge Carol Southwick of Union City.

State police at Corry charged Salzillo in connection with the crimes that started in June.

State police charged Salzillo with one count of burglary, four counts of conspiring to commit burglary, one count of theft by unlawful taking, and one count of forgery.

Salzillo was committed to jail in lieu of $10,000 monetary bond during his arraignment Oct. 16.

State police allege Salzillo entered the Walter Lent residence, 16684 Wager Road, Union Township, without permission, but with intent to commit a crime. Salzillo is accused of taking guns and jewelry valued at $5,570 from the Lent residence.

Salzillo is also accused of a burglary at 11757 Route 6, Concord Township. State police also allege Salzillo agreed to aid Heather Morningstar to commit a burglary at 11362 Donation Road, Waterford Township, and took part in a burglary at 13310 Route 6, Wayne Township.

State police allege Salzillo also conspired with and agreed to aid Morningstar to commit a burglary at 16906 Parker Road, Union Township.

Morningstar, in August, told police she committed several burglaries in Warren, Erie and Crawford counties, and said she was aided by Salzillo, according to the criminal complaint.

Salzillo is also accused of passing a personal check belonging to John Stranahan at Waterford Beverage on July 2. Salzillo allegedly was identified by the business owner, according to the criminal complaint.

Salzillo admitted to state police that he was trying to pass a check that was reported missing from the victim’s checkbook on July 1.

Salzillo was lodged in Erie County Prison in October. He had waived his right to a preliminary hearing in front of Southwick on charges he allegedly sold heroin to a confidential informant from his former residence at 9346 Concord Road, Union City.
