MINA, N.Y. - Sheriff's deputies utilized a K-9 unit to trace an intoxicated woman who fled
the scene of an accident on foot after she crashed a vehicle into a utility pole
Chautauqua County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle accident
on Mann Road in the town of Mina, New York, at about 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
After deputies arrived on scene, they discovered that a vehicle had left the roadway,
struck and severed a utility pole and the driver had fled the scene.
K-9 Link from the sheriff's office was deployed at the scene to find the driver using a
human odor track. Link led deputies three quarters of a mile down the highway into a
wooded area where a female suspect was found hiding and taken into custody.
The woman was identified as Cassandra K. Hoitink, 37, of North East, Pa., and she was
arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, DWI per se having .08 percent or higher
blood alcohol content, leaving scene of accident, operate motor vehicle while using
mobile phone and move from lane unsafely.
Hoitink was processed and released with citations directing her to appear in the Town of
Mina Court at a later date.
