Corry City Council has chosen a person to represent the city on the Erie County Tax Collection Committee (TCC).

The regional TCC is a new, countywide system organized to collect the earned income tax, or 1 percent wage tax.

City Council this week unanimously approved Joanne Smith as the city’s delegate.

Smith currently serves as the city’s EIT collector.

Mayor Scott Sanford made the motion to appoint Smith to the TCC.

“I can’t think of anyone who is a more qualified person,” Sanford said.

In addition to Sanford, voting yes were councilmen Darrell Kysor, Tom Lathrop and Dave Maryott. Councilman Pat Migliaccio was absent from the meeting.

“The state Department of Community and Economic Development wants someone that has a good background and understanding of the daily procedures of an earned income tax office to serve as a delegate,” Smith said.
