UNION CITY — A Union City man was arraigned Thursday in front of District Judge Carol Southwick on charges he robbed and then killed a Union Township man in July.

Corry-based state police and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office charged Donald R. Howard, 46, of 9 Center St., Apt. 3, in the homicide of Raymond Goodwill Jr., 79.

Following his preliminary arraignment on charges of homicide, robbery, theft, and receiving stolen property, Howard was committed to Erie County Prison without bail.

Goodwill was found in his home in the 7900 block of West High Street Extension, Union Township, by his fiance, Ellen Martin, at about 8 a.m. July 4.

Goodwill’s body was bound with rope and he had an injury to his head. The Erie County Coroner’s Office ruled Goodwill died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
