WATERFORD TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old Blairsville man drowned Tuesday evening at Sparrow Pond Campground, 11103 Route 19 N., Waterford Township.

A name has not been released for the drowning victim.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Erie news release, the male was swimming in the pond located inside the park.

The male became distressed and went under the water. People that were at the park with him attempted to help but had no success.

State police were dispatched at 8:06 p.m. and were assisted by Stancliff Hose Co., Lake City Volunteer Fire Department, Corry Fire Department Dive Teams Emergycare, and Perry Highway Hose Co.

Corry Fire Department dispatched a team of divers in a rescue truck at 8:15 p.m. and arrived on scene to assist a North East dive team.

Corry also provided portable lighting during the search and assisted in support roles.

The man was located by local dive teams in the same area of the pond where he went under, according to the release.

Though the release states an investigation is ongoing, it is listed as an accidental drowning.

Corry Fire Department was back in service by 11:38 p.m.
