UC Gathering Sits Pretty Despite Rain

UNION CITY — Heavy rains may have been an unwelcome guest Saturday, but the Gathering at French Creek sloshed right along nonetheless.

Event Co-chairwoman Kaylynn Ostergard made the best of the situation when lightning flashed and the sky burst open — for the first time — before noon.

She headed for shelter at the elementary school cafeteria and enjoyed the Union City Volunteer Fire Department’s chicken barbecue.

“When I came out to take pictures of the Lake Erie Pirates, those crazy pirates were putting on their show in the rain,” she said. “About 30 people were sitting on hay bales watching the show.”
