UNION CITY — The flat, rubberized roof that covers the office space of the Union City Municipal Authority collapsed early this morning, closing the office indefinitely.

The force of the roof collapse blew the plate-glass window onto the sidewalk that faces South Main Street.

Recent heavy rains may have contributed to the collapse, but no cause has yet been determined, authority Chairwoman Thelma Morgan said.

No one was in the building at 12 S. Main St. at the time the roof gave way about 1:30 a.m.
