ROCKDALE — A 44-year-old Union City woman was found dead in the basement of a Rockdale Township residence Wednesday night. The cause of her death is currently under investigation.
Melissa J. Buzanowski was pronounced dead inside a residence located at 25319 Rockdale Road, Union City, at 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday by Crawford County Coroner Scott T. Schell.
Pennsylvania State Police were called to the residence at about 8:27 p.m. after Buzanowski was found dead in the basement of her residence, state police at Meadville reported Thursday afternoon.
Troopers responded to the scene and initiated an investigation, which is currently ongoing.
State police are exploring the possibility of a medical episode as the cause of death.
An autopsy was conducted Thursday but Buzanowski's cause of death is still inconclusive at this time.
"Those results are pending right now," Schell said. "We did not have an obvious cause of death so we're going after toxicology and some other microscopic tests, and that's going to take several weeks."
A call to the investigating officer was not returned as of press time. It's unknown if foul play is suspected.
"That's going to all depend on what results come back," Schell said. "That's why we're investigating this as close as we are. We're just not exactly sure what transpired there."
Buzanowski was residing with her boyfriend at the Rockdale Road residence at the time of her death .
"The gentleman that she lived with had an on-and-off relationship for multiple years and, from what I understand, in the past six or eight weeks she moved back in with this male companion, so that was where she was living," Schell explained.
