COLUMBUS — A 21-year-old man was flown to an Erie hospital via medical helicopter after he suffered injuries from a rollover ATV accident in Columbus Township on Saturday.
Pennsylvania State Police said the accident occurred as Jon D. Dorman, of Columbus, was traveling southbound on Center Road, just north of Route 957, at about 5:48 p.m. on Saturday.
The crash happened near 220 Center Road. Corry Fire Department was dispatched to the accident at 5:47 p.m. and arrived at the scene at 5:51 p.m.
Dorman lost control of the 219 Honda TRX he was driving on a gravel covered roadway, which caused the ATV to overturn and Dorman to fall off the vehicle, according to state police.
After Dorman fell off, the ATV continued to travel in a southeast direction, struck a grassy embankment and overturned numerous times before coming to a final rest upright in a field on the east side of the roadway.
Dorman was injured during the accident and was flown to UPMC Hamot for further medical evaluation.
Police said the severity of Dorman's injuries were minor but the helicopter was called since he lost consciousness. The victim later regained consciousness at the scene.
Corry Fire Department, Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and Corry Ambulance also responded to the scene.
Center Road was closed down for about an hour until first responders left the scene around 7:05 p.m.
Dorman was cited with a summary violation for operating an ATV on a street or highway.
