Route 8 crash

A 23-year-old Union City man escaped injury at 4:05 p.m. Saturday when his 2006 Chevrolet Equinox struck a utility pole on snow-covered Route 8 south of Union City and flipped over. State police at Corry said Geoffrey A. Cooper was driving north on Route 8 at the intersection with Parker Road when the vehicle began to slide on the icy road. Cooper tried to correct for the sliding, but the vehicle began to fishtail. The vehicle went off the east berm and struck a snowbank before hitting a utility pole with its right side. The Equinox then rolled onto its left side. Cooper was not wearing a seat belt. He will be charged with a driving on roadways laned for traffic violation.
