CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — A three-day search for a missing boater in Chautauqua County, N.Y., has ended.

Rescue crews recovered the body of Jason E. Allen, 31, of 609 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, N.Y., in the Dewittville Bay area of Chautauqua Lake about 1:55 p.m. Monday.

Allen had been the target of an extensive search by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and several area fire departments search-and-rescue personnel since his disappearance at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday.

Allen had been boating with a friend and the friend’s young son when they apparently jumped in the water to cool off, according to the Jamestown (N.Y.) Post-Journal.

The friend and his son got back out of the water because it was cold, the Post-Journal reported. When Allen jumped in, the boat pushed away, and wind also caused the boat to drift farther away. Allen’s friend jumped in with a life jacket to try to save him, but was not successful.

Allen’s body was taken by Bemus Point’s rescue boat to Long Point State Park, where Chautauqua Country Coroner John Sixbey met crews and pronounced Allen dead.
