Chili Open to spice up winter

Journal photo by Maryann Mook - Steve Mitchell, right, chairman of the Corry Rotary Club’s Chili Open Golf Tournament committee, shows his 4-year-old son, Eli, how to hold a golf club, while Tina Freeman, left, president of the Rotary Club, gets ready to practice her swing. The Chili Open will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at the American Legion Post 365, 1460 Sciota Road.

Eli Mitchell doesn’t quite have his golf swing down pat, so he won’t be golfing in the Chili Open this year.

But Eli, who turned 4 years old on Friday, has a favorite golfer he’ll be rooting for when the Corry Rotary Club hosts its mid-winter golf event.

Eli’s dad, Steve Mitchell, will not only golf in the four-man scramble, he’s also chairman of the Chili Open committee.

The annual event, held each February, is sponsored by Sander’s Markets.
