CRAWFORD COUNTY — State police at Meadville are investigating a series of criminal mischief and cruelty to animals crimes that occurred in Crawford County between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.

Someone reportedly began shooting at mailboxes in the areas of Richmond, Rockdale, Cambridge and Venango townships with a 12-gauge shotgun.

The shooter also shot at windows and then fired three shots toward cows in the area of Henry Road, Rockdale Township. One of the cows suffered wounds to its nose and neck.

The victims are William Benjamin and David Mangus, both of Townville, and Tracy Simcheck and Barbara Garner, both of Cambridge Springs.

The victims told state police they heard shots fire in rapid succession, which indicated the shotgun may have been a semiautomatic.

Anyone with information or who may have seen a small, dark-colored passenger vehicle in the area is asked to call state police at Meadville at 332-6911.
