The Union City School Board, during its April 11 meeting, approved several personnel items, including more resignations due to retirement.

The board also OK’d the transfer of several teachers to different positions.

The board accepted resignations from the following professional staff who qualify and have accepted a retirement incentive offered by the board: Lisa S. Frisina, Stephen E. Frisina, Sherri Lee Porter, Madalyn E. Still, Blaine R. Walp, Steven G. Yovich and Michael A. Zarger.

The options include a cash incentive, insurance for themselves for five years, and family insurance.

The resignations are effective June 30.

In another matter, the board approved adjusting the salary of Business Manager Tara Lineman upwards to $95,000 for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year. The increase is to bring her salary in line with the business manager position in surrounding school districts.

In other personnel items, the board approved the following:

  •  Tina Blakeslee and Samantha Wojtecki to the district substitute list for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year;
  •  Keith Knauff, Denise Kochanczyk and Denice Tippen as volunteers for the remainder of the current school year;
  •  Erin Tate and Heather Olson to the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5 Emergency Substitute Teacher Consortium list for the remainder of the current school year;
  •  Malea Lyon as temporary special education aide for the remainder of the current school year, seven hours per day at $9 per hour;
  •  the transfer of Stephanie States from middle school/high school special education teacher to the new secondary emotional support teaching position, which opens with the 2019-20 school year;
  •  the transfer of Edith M. Leute from elementary special education teacher to second-grade teacher, effective with the 2019-20 school year;
  •  the transfer of Rhonda L. Bem from kindergarten teacher to second-grade teacher, effective with the 2019-20 school year;
  •  the transfer of Sandi L. George from fourth-grade teacher to third-grade teacher, effective with the 2019-20 school year;
  •  the transfer of Michelle E. Flaherty from second grade to the new elementary science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) position, effective with the 2019-20 school year;
  •  Erin D. Jenkins as secondary art teacher, effective with the 2019-20 school year, step 1, bachelor’s degree, at a salary of $44,106, pending receipt of her Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate and remaining employment documents;
  •  Donna L. Watkins, R.N., as certified school nurse, effective with the 2019-20 school year, step 1, bachelor’s degree, at a salary of $44,106;
  •  Tegan J. Kriebel as secondary family consumer science teacher, effective with the 2019-20 school year, step 1, bachelor’s degree, at a salary of $44,160, pending receipt of her Pennsylvania Teaching Certification and remaining employment documents.

Board members approving the personnel items were George Trauner, Blain Blakeslee, David Fox, Stephen Gilbert, Douglas Hopson and Lori Lewis. Blakeslee abstained from voting for Tina Blakeslee and Samantha Wojtecki to the substitute list because Tina Blakeslee is his wife.

Brian Gregor, Dr. Barbara Miller and David Robinson were absent from the meeting.
