David Himelein of Findley Lake was recently appointed to a Chautauqua County Legislature seat that was vacated by James E. Caflisch, R-French Creek.

Caflisch resigned from his position to apply for the job of Legislative Clerk.

The Republican Committee for Legislative District 21 met in March to announce its recommendation.

In February, Himelein retired from Welch Foods after 41 years of employment. He has served on the Town of Mina board for nine years, has been chief of the Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department, was president of the Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs Association, and chair of the county’s Fire Advisory Board.

Himelein will complete his appointment as district lecturer in Chautauqua District Order of the Eastern Star in October.

He and his wife, Joan, have two daughters, Cynthia Dietzen and Tracey Becker.

Joan Himelein serves as Town of Mina Clerk.
