The Union City Bears varsity and junior varsity basketball teams are planning a trip in December 2021 to play in a tournament in Orlando, Florida.

But the teams need to finance that trip, and team members are fundraising to pay the costs.

One of those fundraisers is a Dodgeball Challenge. The Dodgeball Challenge is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, at Union City Area High School and Union City Area Elementary School.

There are limited openings. The cost is $30 per team, with six players on each team.

The challenge will include seven divisions – grades four and five, grade six, grade seven, grade eight, grades nine and 10, grades 11 and 12 and adult division. Elementary school and middle school teams will play in the morning; high school and adult brackets will play in the afternoon/early evening.

If enough teams do not sign up, some divisions could be combined.

There will be 16 teams per division. The first 16 teams to sign up are in; any after that are on a waiting list.

The challenge will be bracket play with double elimination.

Games will be timed, with best-of-three games or a 15-minute limit. The team with the most players at the end of 15 minutes or the first team to win two games is the winner.

Tie breakers will be one minute, one versus one, on a shortened court.

Game rules and rules of sportsmanship will apply.

Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Price of admission is free for players and children age 12 and under; $2 for adults and $1 for students and senior citizens.
