A combined 80th birthday celebration for Dan Richards of Elgin and Gladys Swart Richards of Fayettville was recently held at the Elgin Beaverdam Hose Company.

The event was hosted by their families.

In addition to the party, the Swart family reunion was held and incorporated into the party.

Family members attended from Scottsdale and Avondale, Ariz.; and Edgewater and Laurel, Md.

This was the first time in several years the family was complete, due to families living in different locations.

The event was attended by about 150 friends, family and classmates.

A poem was read by Shelby and Jonathan Donaldson, who are a great-grandchildren of Gladys Richards.

Granddaughters of Dan Richards entertained the group with Erika Gillihan singing “You Life Me Up.”

Alexandra Graham presented a taped piano piece dedicated to her grandfather.

Gladys Richards has three children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dan Richards has five children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Debbie Gillihan, daughter and niece, baked the birthday cakes for each of the celebrants.
