Applications are now being accepted for the Spartansburg Community Fair Queen and Princess pageant, which will be held September 6.
Forms are available at several Spartansburg businesses and must be turned in by July 25 to the merchants or a fair board member.
Queen contestants must be at 16 years old and not over 20 years old by June 1. They must also be single, never married, have no children, and must not marry, nor get pregnant during her reign. In addition, they must wear formal attire as part of the pageant.
Princess contestants must be 6 years old and not over 10 years old by June 1. They may wear any style of dress.
All contestants, or the parent with joint custody of a contestant, must be a resident of Spartansburg Borough or Sparta Township. They must have their parent or guardian’s consent, and must not be a former Spartansburg Fair winner, nor state contestant.
Participants must stay for the entire judging.
In addition to the above rules, each queen and princess contestant must be sponsored by one of the following businesses: Ongley Hardwood, Guy M. Fish Co., Little Bit of Country Flower & Gift Shop, Angie’s Amish Furniture & Country Variety Store, Scouten’s Greenhouse, Sparty Market, The Dutch Treat Restaurant, Slocums, cndshops.com and Bova Hardware.
There will be one queen, two runners-up and a Miss Congeniality chosen.
The 2010 Spartansburg Fair Queen will be awarded a $250 scholarship from the fair and a $2,000 scholarship from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville.
There will also be one Princess, two runners-up and a Miss Congeniality chosen.
All contest winners must ride on a float in the Spartansburg Fair Parade.
The queen, runners-up and Miss Congeniality must pass out ribbons on day of exhibit judging. Also, those individuals must agree to enter any parade and contests the queen committee wants them to enter with no expense incurred by the committee.
