Band alumni needed for Homecoming football game

Alumni members of the Corry Area High School marching band are invited to participate in the Oct. 2 Homecoming game. Last year, several alumni members, above, joined in playing “The Star Spangled Banner” and the alma mater.

Corry Area High School marching band alumni are once again being invited to be part of this year’s Homecoming football game.

Corry Band Director Brian Gresh would like any former instrumentalist or color guard member to join in performing “The Star Spangled Banner” and the alma mater during a pregame performance Oct. 2 when the Beavers take on the Central Falcons.

There will be no formal practices scheduled. However, a short rehearsal will be held right before the game at about 6 p.m. in the band room.

Alumni participants are asked to wear anything black and orange.

Retired Corry Band Director Ron Rairie, who is a marching band assistant director this year, will be directing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

“Last year at our inaugural debut the alumni band was a huge hit,” Gresh said. “I’m hoping we can make this an annual event.”

After the pregame performance, alumni members also have the option to join the band in the stands to play selections during the game.

Anyone interested in participating this year may contact Gresh at 665-8297 ext. 117, or e-mail him at bgresh@corrysd.net.

If anyone is in need of an instrument, contact Gresh as soon as possible to ensure an instrument will be available the evening of the performance.

Music that will be played during Homecoming night may be downloaded from the Corry School District Edline page.

Web users may log onto www.corrysd.net and click on “School Board” at the top of the screen. That bar will drop down to offer more links. Click on “Edline.”

Once the new page loads up, click on “High School” at the top of the page.

After the new screen appears, click on “Clubs and Activities.”

Look for the “Marching Band” link and then select “Homecoming Music.”
