It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

The Union City Parks and Recreation Commission is encouraging homeowners in the borough to participate in its annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest.

For the first time, local businesses are invited to join in the fun by decking out a storefront or window display with Christmas decor.

"We decided to start including businesses in the contest in an effort to help "deck the halls" of Main Street," Parks and Recreation Commission Secretary Elizabeth Malec said. "We all agree how nice it would be to drive through town and see Main Street all decorated for the holidays."

The deadline to register for the decorating contest is Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Interested parties can call the UC borough office at 814-438-2331 to register.

The decorated residences and businesses will be judged in separate categories with monetary prizes for first, second and third place.

First place will receive $100, second place will win $75 and third place will get $50.

The entrants will be judged on the evening of Friday, Dec. 11.
