Alexandra Puckly, a 2011 graduate of Corry Area School, was recently named as one of the Mercyhurst Scholar-Athletes for the 2013-2014 school year.

A student-athlete must earn at least a 3.0 grade point average to qualify for the list.

Puckly joined 389 other students, a school record for Mercyhurst, topping their list of 356 scholar-athletes last year.

Justin Miller of Corry is a senior pharmacy student at Wilkes University. Within his studies, Miller has become a member of a research team examining novel approaches to treat kidney stones.

The team is working to identify enzymes that might destroy the kidney stones, and then clone the genes which encode the enzymes.

Using bacteria and transgenic plants, the team hopes to reproduce the genes.

Wilkes faculty William Terzaghi, professor of biology; Del Lucent, assistant professor of physics; and Adam VanWert, associate professor of pharaceutical sciences; are directing the investigation.
