When one of their own was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, a group of local women united to help make a difference.

The fight against breast cancer is something the women are especially passionate about so they have decided to call themselves The Pink Racks.

However, the cancer treatment that the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation is developing will help individuals stricken with many different types of cancer, which is why the ladies chose to raise money for the organization that is based in Erie.

Their first fundraising event was a scavenger hunt that was held in Spartansburg.

Teams of four were given a few hours to find as many items as they could out of a list of 50.

The Pink Racks also had various items for purchase including T-shirts and koozies featuring their logo and slogan, “Save a Rack.” They also sold pink hair extensions, 50/50 tickets and held various raffles.

This event alone raised more than $850 and The Pink Racks made their first installment of what they hope will be many more for the Kanzius Foundation.

The Pink Racks plan to continue selling their logo items and do more fundraisers throughout the upcoming year, including a run/walk event in the spring, a motorcycle poker run in the summer, the 2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt in the fall, and wrap up the year with their participation in the Christmas in Spartansburg event.
