The bi-annual family reunion of the descendants of Elijah Proctor was held Aug. 8 at the VFW pavilion in Corry.

The reunion was hosted by the Homer Proctor descendants. Albert and Mary Jane Proctor of Lakewood, N.Y., and Tom and Phyllis Wickerham of Henrietta, N.Y., were the chairpersons.

One hundred and six guests attended the reunion. William Proctor led the group in a prayer before a tureen lunch was served.

Rex Proctor, 90, of Findley Lake, N.Y., and Port Orange, Fla., was presented with a gift for being the oldest descendant present.

Liam Sekol, the 2-month-old son of Matt and Julie Sekol of Walnutport, Pa., was the youngest member present.

Ed Proctor of San Diego, Calif., traveled the farthest to attend.

The 50/50 raffle was won by Audrey Jean Hamilton of Apalachin, N.Y.

Door prizes were awarded to Brad Proctor of Jamestown, N.Y., Phyllis Wickerman, and Tyler Woloben and Kylee Davis, both of Clymer, N.Y.

Newlyweds David and Shannon DeTroeyer Proctor, who were married June 20 in Washington, D.C., also attended.

Guests also traveled from Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois and Missouri.

Audrey Hamilton, who was in charge of fundraising, thanked all who brought donations for a Chinese and silent auction.

Eileen Sanden-Hewitt-Proctor entertained children with a piñata and games.

The Proctor Croquet Tournament was canceled due to rain.

A reunion cake was provided by Ed Proctor, and a 50th anniversary cake was provided by the family of Ray and Audrey Hamilton, in honor of the couple’s January anniversary.

As an addition to the event, a cemetery clean-up day was held Aug. 9 and was organized by Don and Toyoko Proctor of Florida.

Twenty seven family members showed up to trim trees, pull weeds and clean some headstones at Beaverdam’s lawn cemetery.

The family decided this type of work should be an annual occurrence.

William Proctor furnished his truck to haul water for the clean-up, while Lewie Bielak and Terry Schweitzer furnished brought their trucks and trailers to haul brush away.

Bielak hosted a weiner roast at his farm in Wattsburg following the work.

The next family reunion is being planned for Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at the Corry VFW pavilion. All Proctor descendants are invited and encouraged to attend.
