A canned good and nonperishable food drive has raised 1,759 items that will help feed hungry residents this holiday season.

The drive was coordinated by WWCB 1370 AM radio and challenged elementary students in the Corry Area School District to collect as many items as they could. All items will be donated to the Corry Area Food Pantry.

A pizza party was awarded to the  homeroom that brought in the most items in grades Pre-K through five. 

Students have been collecting since late November. 

Total number of items collected at Corry Area Primary School was 577. Total number of items collected at Corry Area Intermediate School was 1,182.

The winning classes and their schools are: 

• Pre-K — Kristen Covell’s class from Corry Area Primary School with 54 items.

• Kindergarten — Becky Donovan’s class from Corry Area Primary School with 55 items.

• First grade — Rachel Knapp’s class  from Corry Area Primary School with 90 items.

• Second grade — Amy Hodak’s class from Corry Area Primary School with 94 items.

• Third grade — Sherry Eastman’s class from Corry Area Intermediate School with 306 items.

• Fourth grade — Nathan Bailey’s class from Corry Area Intermediate School with 214 items.

• Fifth grade — Diane White’s class from Corry Area Intermediate School with 402 items.
