The annual International Gifts sale will be held Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16 at Beaverdam Mennonite Church, 17721 Route 89. There will be an exquisite collection of handmade gifts, home decor, musical instruments, jewelry and personal accessories for sale.
International Gifts will help skilled artisans in 38 countries receive a fair price for their products. Featured items include hand-loomed textiles, pottery, jewelry, baskets, toys and a variety of nativities.
The Beaverdam Mennonite Church has hosted the sale for 41 years, showcasing handcrafted items marketed by Ten Thousand Villages, a nonprofit fair trade organization based in Akron, Pa.
Two special features of this year’s sale are a quilt giveaway, a thank you to everyone who has supported the event over the past 40 years. The second feature is the addition of a special “sale” table with over $2000 worth of merchandise priced from $1 to $6.
As in the past, there will be a bake sale with all homemade goodies for sale. The proceeds from the bake sale go toward defraying expenses of the sale and publicity.
“This is not a fundraiser for the Beaverdam Mennonite Church,” said Cathy Harms, member of the Beaverdam Mennonite Church. “All monies from the sale of crafts from Ten Thousand Villages are returned to Ten Thousand Villages for their purchase of more wonderful handmade gifts.”
Hours for the sale are Friday, Oct.15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Beaverdam Mennonite Church is handicap accessible. The Beaverdam Mennonite Church is half a mile north on Route 89 from Route 6 between Corry and Union City, and seven miles south on Route 89 from Route 8, from Wattsburg.
