The Goodsel family headed off to Houston last weekend, for a volleyball tourney. They managed to stay at the same hotel as where the Detroit Tigers were at (they were in town to play the Astros). Austin Goodsel was in the right place at the right time. He got his arm cast autographed by Torri Hunter and MVP Miguel Cabrera.
Best wishes to Jackie Rhodes on her hip replacement surgery.
I’m impressed how many people watched and followed the World Cup. Corry transplant Rene Menjivar is reportedly in Brazil. I played soccer with Rene for several years. He’s originally from El Salvador.
Will you go somewhere for fireworks this weekend? I'm betting Warren will be jam-packed off Route 6.
The famous Chase Carpenter turned 5 yesterday.
Deb Mulligan has a birthday on Thursday.
The Gentiles have a new family member after Julia adopted a rescue puppy.
Belated birthday wishes yesterday to Julie Maloney, who enjoys working for Doctors Proy and Proy. And to former CAHS teacher and North Hills head groundskeeper Jim Becker. Jim taught at CAHS from 1962-1994. I always enjoyed his meetings with George Sample.
Teri Volk's birthday is July 5, and Steph Donoghue’s on July 6.
Catter Kellogg will hit the big 5-0 tomorrow. Unless he had trouble with his weed whacker.
Great news: Trevor got his visit from the ice cream truck on Marion Street. Twice, I’m told. Hopefully he got his Smarties.
You can't make this up. John Wawrejko and Ernie Babcock were wearing identical Corry Contract Relay for Life shirts this past Saturday night. I guess Ernie missed the Pirates’ game on Sunday.
The infamous Richard Skalos is off to Maine, as a lobster keeps calling him.
Glenn Mead Day is set for Aug. 10 at Mead Park, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. And the duck races return, along with a cruise-in, vendors and a silent auction.
The photo is of Jim and Penni Bennink last night at Bracken Field. Caryn Marrs was dancing to victory when Corry rallied for the win.
