Sorry to see that Mercyhurst North East is closing down. It has been a solid connection for Corry athletes. The Whiteley sisters were standouts in soccer for the Saints, Alex Puckly was outstanding in softball. Hope Hasbrouck and Rachel Brenner are on the current MNE volleyball team. Corry's baseball teams played at the college that once was a seminary.
Sad to see the closing of Perkins and knowing that Country Foods, Al's Dairy Bar when I was a kid, is also a memory of our past. The Perkins in Warren also closed yesterday.
Also closing was Ruby Tuesday's in Lakewood, N.Y., following nearby Alfie's and Craft Burgers and Brews.
Belated Labor Day birthday wish to Jeanne Mancino, and to Codie Irwin (Aug. 31) who I had listed a month early.
Refuge, featuring former Fort LeBoeuf all-state wrestler Dan Baney, is playing at the Spartansburg Fair tomorrow from 7-11 p.m.
Kudos to Preston Eshelman for trimming and cleaning up around the firemen’s monument at the city park.
Craig Beter’s band Shady Side put on two great shows last weekend, first at the Findley Lake Fall Harvest and then at the Erie County Wattsburg Fair.
Former McInnes Steel employees, it's been eight years since the last get together. So tonight’s the night, starting at 6 p.m. at the Corry VFW.
Thanks to Heidi Long for supplying the great cross country photos from the McDowell Invitational.
Get-well wishes to Corry football player Jake Wellman.
The class of 1969 switched to GiGi's yesterday for a nice breakfast get together.
The 26th Annual Edinboro Highland Games & Scottish Festival is this week.
An old-fashioned Rally Day will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 9 a.m. All ages are welcome and those who attend are asked to bring a breakfast tureen to share. Centers will be set up in fellowship hall for fun activities — crafts and games — followed by the 10 a.m. worship service.
Sympathy to the families and many friends of Tom Lathrop Sr., Larry Johnson, Harold Rhodes and Bradley Robbins.
