Jim Wojcicehowski has worn many hats through the years, and is back as a substitute teacher in the Union City Area School District. But how about this, he's filling in as a gym teacher. And he may be the only gym teacher to wear a tie.
Rod McCray, longtime UC teacher and coach, is also subbing there. In addition, he's with his son Jason on the McCray and Son broadcasts on Bears basketball.
I saw the Brooks clan was all together for the holidays for the first time in quite awhile.
Congrats to Tiffany Chase and Zach Donovan on their Christmas engagement.
Mickey Sekerak spoiled my surprise birthday party by telling me that the whole family was gathered at my aunt Jean’s memorial. I never knew that she had a hole-in-one while golfing.
Belated birthday wishes to Phil Catalfu and Holly Horton yesterday. Ron Rairie’s special day is Thursday along with Snookie Bailey who was the New Year’s baby in 1940. Julie Krone and Kathy Silvis have Friday birthdays.
The other day at the Union City American Legion, I met Mike and Nancy who live half the year in New Orleans and have had a place at Canadohta Lake since 1988. They are big-time Saints football fans. How about this: Their daughter, Amanda, teaches music in New Orleans and Drew Brees’ children are among her students.
Kudos to the Corry volleyball community that raised nearly $600 for the ANNA Shelter on its charity night this past season. Several local companies supported this important fundraising event.
Corry’s swim team is hosting a breakfast at the VFW this Sunday from 8-11 a.m.
Let’s see how things go at the Corry VFW and Moose Clubs with no smoking bans in effect tomorrow (Jan. 1).
Finally, from CAHS wrestling coach Mark Munsee: “What a showing by our fans, we had an almost 3-hour drive to the (Southmoreland) tournament and I think Corry also won the biggest fan base competition,” he said. “Our base not only included parents and relatives but also fans that didn't even have a dog in the fight. Thank you to Dawn McChesney and the other Corry fans or parents who helped keep our stat book last weekend. That is going above and beyond the duties of a parent or fan.”
