Yard sales are really popular in Corry, just drive around. The Corry Chamber of Commerce Annual Community-Wide Yard Sale is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The streets are sure to be busy.
Corry Country Trio plays Thursday at North Hills Golf Course. It features Perry Nichols on guitar and vocals, who has been playing guitar in area bands for over 60 years. Noreen Summerville just moved back to Corry and had played bass with Perry for several years. Heidi Harding hails from New York. She plays guitar and violin. The newly formed group is often seen at open mics at the Fork and Barrel on Saturday nights. Rumor has it that Kelly Way will join them on some songs.
Happy 20th birthday to my neighbor, Rachel Volk.
Another neighbor, or now ex-neighbor, Shelby Weingard, has left Johnson Street. She sure had a lot of stuff out at the curb.
Prayers for Phil Bemis.
Glad to see that Ed Rose's wife Sandylee is home recuperating.
Tom VanTassel got quite a birthday present (no. 69) at the VFW. His wife Jean and daughter Brittini were on hand to help him celebrate.
Mason Sammons turned 5 yesterday. Any ice cream from grandparents Pam and John Wawrejko?
Belated birthday wishes to Darlene Black.
The Father Cooper Golf Classic doesn't draw quite as many players as it did several years ago, but the 56 who played Saturday at North Hills had a good time. Deacon Bill Saborsky was the man in charge (he's a good talker), Jon Maker cooked the steaks and the many women workers on hand were always busy, during and after the event. I apologize to Len Clark for almost hitting him on hole No. 7 when I was shooting to win the car from Crotty's. He may need a helmet next time. Maybe Susan Crawford can celebrate her women's longest putt award with a trip to New York City.
Best wishes to CAHS grad Josh Schrecengost who, with his girlfriend, has moved to Fredericksburg, Va.
Rachel Tasker was in San Francisco earlier this week. She visited Pier 39, Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island State Park and Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. She really is everywhere.
Happy birthday today to Deb Morgan and Codie Irwin.
Here's your chance to meet the new owner of Snap Fitness, Bob Brown. It's on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the center starting at 10 a.m. You my know Bob's older brother, Denny, a 1968 Corry High School graduate. He was a standout in football and track (throwing the javelin). He and his wife Paula built a beautiful place on Blue Eye Road, near Ron Walters. He was seen at many CAHS volleyball matches.
Glenn Mead Day is set for Sunday, Aug. 11 at Mead Park running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For the record, neither Lisa nor Joe Kasper had a birthday last week. They both celebrate in April.
Hard to believe it but Mary Norton, who was at the Kim Kuzma Memorial Tournament, has been attending softball games for over 50 years (and often keeping score).
